Sun moon & stars

Stars, Moon and Sun in bible prophecy
                                                                      By Thracia Gharst

Most people believe that when the bible says that the sun, moon and stars would turn to blood, fall, or stop giving its light in bible prophecy, that it was talking about the literal sun, moon and stars falling or literally turning to blood. There are not very many people who remember what happened in the old testament when Israel would backslide and start worshiping other Gods. God would send a prophet who would tell them that a day of the Lord was coming, which always symbolized judgment. There would be a lot of talk about it being a cloudy day or a lot of talk about the sun moon and stars falling or getting dark. Remember in Genesis stars were for signs and to rule the day and night. That's why when God talked about it being a day of the Lord where there would be clouds and the constellations turning dark or falling that there was going to be a change in rulership. God would usually stir up another nations army to fight and kill some and inslave others until the Israelites would repent. Moses warned the people that in the future there would be a generation of people who God would utterly destroy and that was the generation of people who killed him, rejected his covenant, killed his disciples and saints and this happened in 70 A.D Read the following scriptures in the old testament and compare it to end time bible prophecy.

14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; 15 and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. 16 Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. 17 God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18 and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.

This shows that stars in the bible are used for signs and rulership. Like when a new king/ruler was born who was our savior Jesus. The wise men saw a new star in the sky.

Another example is when God judged Egypt. Read below and you will see that God didn't cover the literal heaven or make the literal stars dark, but he used another nation to judge Egypt and change the rulership.

Judgment against Egypt

Ezekiel 32:7-8

And when I shall put thee out I will cover the heaven and make the stars thereof dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give her light. All the bright lights of heaven will I make dark over thee.

This is another good example of how the constellationan (heavens, sun and stars) where not literally darkening, but God was using another nation to judge Babylon.

Judgment on Babylon

Isaiah 13:9-11

See, the day of the LORD is coming
a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger
to make the land desolate r
and destroy the sinners within it.
10 The stars of heaven and their constellations
will not show their light.
The rising sun will be darkened
and the moon will not give its light.

11 I will punish the world for its evil,
the wicked for their sins.
I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty
and will humble the pride of the ruthless.

 Here are some other examples-

Joel 2:10

The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall trimble. The sun, moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdrawal their shining.

 Amos 8:9

And it shall come to pass in that day saith the Lord God, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in a clear day

Notice how when God was going to change ruler ship and come in judgment the same biblical language used in the old testament sounds just like end time bible prophecy that dispensationalists claim is for a future coming. Which they say is literal. It sure wasn't literal in the OT.

Look at Josephs dream, his fathers and brothers were in ruler ship over him. Josephs Dad knew right away that he was not referring to the literal sun, moon and stars but referring to him and his brothers. That was Josephs Dad first clue that someday Joseph would rule over them. Sure enough when Joseph became 2nd only to Pharaoh in ruler ship he then ruled over the land & over his family.

                                                                              Genesis 37:5-11

Genesis 37:5-11

And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it to his brethren: and they hated him yet the more. And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed: For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf. And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words. And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me. And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth? And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying. Genesis 37:5-11?

God Comes To Judge Ancient Babylon Using the Medes - 500s BC

Wail, for the day of the Lord is near; it will come like destruction from the Almighty! Therefore all hands will be feeble, and every human heart will melt, and they will be dismayed. Pangs and agony will seize them; they will be in anguish like a woman in labor. (like Rev woman in labor) They will look aghast at one another; their faces will be aflame. See, the day of the LORD comes, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger, to make the earth a desolation, and to destroy its sinners from it. For the stars of the heavens and their constellations will not give their light; the sun will be dark at its rising, and the moon will not shed its light. I will punish the world for its evil, and the wicked for their iniquity...Therefore I will make the heavens tremble, and the earth will be shaken out of its place, at the wrath of the LORD of hosts in the day of his fierce anger. Like a hunted gazelle, or like sheep with no one to gather them, all will turn to their own people, and all will flee to their own lands. Whoever is found will be thrust through, and whoever is caught will fall by the sword. Their infants will be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses will be plundered, and their wives ravished. See, I am stirring up the Medes against them, who have no regard for silver and do not delight in gold. Their bows will slaughter the young men; they will have no mercy on the fruit of the womb; their eyes will not pity children. And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the splendor and pride of the Chaldeans, will be like Sodom and Gomorrah when God overthrew them. (Isaiah 13:6-11, 13,15-19)

O Jerusalem, That you may be saved...I looked on the earth, and behold, it was formless and void; And to the heavens, and they had no light. I looked on the mountains, and behold, they were quaking, And all the hills moved to and fro. I looked, and behold, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens had fled. I looked, and behold, the fruitful land was a wilderness, And all its cities were pulled down Before the LORD, before His fierce anger. For thus says the LORD, The whole land shall be a desolation, Yet I will not execute a complete destruction. For this the earth shall mourn And the heavens above be dark, because I have spoken, I have purposed, And I will not change My mind, nor will I turn from it. At the sound of the horseman and bowman every city flees; They go into the thickets and climb among the rocks; Every city is forsaken, And no man dwells in them. And you, O desolate one, what will you do? (Jeremiah 4:13-14, 23-30)

This makes its very clear that the sun moon and stars in bible prophecy referred to a change in ruler ship or government. The literal sun, moon and stars turning to blood and falling futurists teach will happen in the future, but if one star fell to earth it would destroy the world. That's where futurists go wrong they make almost everything in bible prophecy literal. Bible prophecy is very symbolic you have to use scriptures in the old testament that happened naturally and in the new testament see there spiritual meaning. That;s why the bible says 1st comes the natural & then the spiritual.
