Spiritually clothed

Spiritually clothed

2nd Corinthians 5 & Spiritually clothed with God

 By Thracia Gharst

For we know that if our earthly house of [this] tabernacle were

dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands,

eternal in the heavens.  2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to

be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven. 3 If indeed,

having been clothed we shall not be found naked, 4 For we that are

in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be

unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of

life. 5Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who

also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. 6Therefore we are

always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body,

we are absent from the Lord: 7(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

8We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the

body, and to be present with the Lord.

For we know that if our earthly house of [this] tabernacle were dissolved-

I believe this is talking about the current temple known as Herod’s temple being done away with; which Jesus prophesied Matt 24 would be left with not one stone upon another, and continues in that chapter to tell his disciples what would happen at the end of the world (age) saying this generation will not pass away until all these things be fulfilled.

we have a building of God, an house not made with hands,- Rev 21: 1-3 and I saw the new heaven and the new earth ( new covenant & new people Jew and Gentile in one body) For the first heaven and the first earth ( old covenant and unbelieving Jews) were passed away; and there was no more sea (people), and I John saw the holy city, New Jerusalem coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride, adorned for her husband. This is the church (bride) ready for her husband (the groom Jesus) and I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, behold, the tabernacle of God is within men, and he will dwell within them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them and be their God. This is the building of God not made with hands. Its within man/woman.

Eternal in the heavens – Remember the scripture where God tells his disciples

"If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you."
John 15:19, KJV

Meaning even though they are in the world they are in the kingdom of God because they have been saved. Eph 2:5-6 Even when we were dead in sins hath quickened us together with Christ and hath raised us up together and made us sit together in heavenly places with Christ . Once again we can be in this world and be seated with Christ, because we're in Christ which I will explain later.

For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven. If indeed, having been clothed we shall not be found naked-

The moment I read this I felt like God was showing me something, first notice he said “having been clothed” making reference to the fact that they must have been clothed before. When Adam and Eve ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil I often wondered why eating from that tree of the knowledge of good and evil cause them to know they were naked when they were naked before. That told me it must have been a type of spiritual clothing. I know God told them in the day they ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil that they would surely die. We know they did not die physically in that day,so they must have died spiritually. I believe they lost their spiritual covering during the fall. Because they knew they were naked, if the covering they had was spiritual. I asked my pastor why they had to be clothed with animal skins, he told me it was because it had to be a blood sacrifice that gave them a covering. After I thought

about this I realized that Jesus after he died gave us our outward/inward covering with his blood. Once we are baptized the water is symbolic for his blood. We are resurrected in him Rom 6:2. That is our outward covering. When we are filled with his spirit he then makes his tabernacle within us. That is our inward covering. My pastor taught me that the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was the law, because it told you what was right and wrong. Paul said I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not know lust, except the law had said, thou shall not covet. In the new testament they were having a covenant change and since the law was almost fulfilled I can understand why the apostles and saints were groaning earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with their new house from heaven, because until the law was completely fulfilled (done away with) the new covenant of grace wouldn’t be established and there new covering wouldn't be complete. We know Jesus is the tabernacle. Jesus said “tear down this tabernacle, and I will raise it up in three days” speaking of himself. In Galatians 3:27- 29

For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. (like putting on clothes) There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. 29And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

I have been given trouble by futurists over the nature of the resurrection, but the new body we were promised we would get was and is given to us once we are baptized, because we are resurrected into Christ, he is our new body which is what house means above. Then when we are filled with the holy spirit he makes his tabernacle within us. We are no longer naked but clothed if we are saved.

Verse 4-for we that are in this tabernacle do groom being burdened not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon that mortality might be swallowed up of life.

Did you read what I read? When we are clothed with Gods tabernacle mortality is swallowed up. Why, because we now have eternal life our physical bodies die, but we do not stay in the ground, our spirit goes on living.
When Adam and Eve lost their first clothing they (spiritually) died, that is the whole reason Christ had to come to undo spiritual death. but now because we are under a new covenant of grace mortality is swallowed up for eternal life for believers.

Now he that hath wrought us for the self same thing is God, who also hath given unto us their Ernest of the spirit.

The holy spirit had come it guaranteed that God was going to soon come and establish the new covenant

Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord. -they are at home in their body but absent from the Lord because even though they had been saved their salvation wasn’t complete until Christ came.

For we walk by faith, not by sight

We are confident, I say, and willing rather to the absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.- Speaking of being dead to their physical body, is to be present with the Lord with our bodies being clothed with a heavenly tabernacle, he then is our body at this time, because we are in him clothed with Christ and he is within us. This is the rest of the scriptures

So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

    The Ministry of Reconciliation

11 Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade others. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience. 12 We are not trying to commend ourselves to you again, but are giving you an opportunity to take pride in us, so that you can answer those who take pride in what is seen rather than in what is in the heart. 13 If we are “out of our mind,” as some say, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. 14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.(he was speaking to people who were already saved) 15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

16 So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:[a] The old has gone, the new is here! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin[b] for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God

Have you noticed he only doesn't count sin against you if you are in him. That's why being saved is so important. Even though he is not counting it we should not purposely be doing sin.

Definition of reconciliation - 1. (v. t.) To cause to be friendly again; to conciliate anew; to restore to friendship; to bring back to harmony; to cause to be no longer at variance; as, to

    reconcile persons who have quarreled.

Jesus was the 2nd Adam undoing what the first Adam did. Dying on a tree to undo what Adam and Eve did when they ate from the tree that caused spiritual death, that resulted in physical death. That is why he brought reconciliation to bring back harmony. His presence came to judge the wicked and restore the righteous back to the way they were before Adam and Eve sinned

    1st John 2

24 As for you, see that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is what he promised us—eternal life.

26 I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. 27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him.

            God’s Children and Sin

28 And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming.

29 If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is right has been born of him. (when you're saved you're born again) You are no longer under the nature of sin that you were born with, because you are born of God.

          1 John 3

1 See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears,[h] we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3 All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.

Notice all the times he refers to them as we, not them as in people in the future. They were expecting Christ to come in that generation like he said he would.

4 Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. 5 But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. 6 No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.

7 Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. 8 The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. 9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God. 10 This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister.

It is clear that sin was the main problem that continued happening and the bible says that without the law there is no sin. Does that mean that when the law ended that it was impossible to sin? Absolutely not. What Christs planned was to become sin for us when he died so that anyone who is sorry for their sins can be saved and no longer serve sin , but serve God and live within him and him live within them. When they get saved they no longer have a sin nature, because they are born again of the water and spirit. His seed at that point is planted within them.Romans 4:15-17

LAWLESSNESS

New King James Version (NKJV)

15 because the law brings about wrath; for where there is no law there is no transgression.

16 Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all 17 (as it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations”[a]) in the presence of Him whom he believed—God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;

The law has passed and since it has passed according to verse 15 for Gods people where there is no law there is no sin. Notice he said many nations, which is plural, believing Jew and Gentile in one body. Not just the Jews.

18Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. 19Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven

What is lawlessness? Answer: Lawlessness is those who do not obey Gods old covenant law. Are we under the old covenant of law? Answer: no. From the above scripture Jesus came to fulfill the law and when he died he said it is finished. Meaning the son of man Jesus Christ fulfilled the law. Now that the law is finished why do pastors go to the old covenant of law and try to take scriptures and make them (like Danials 70th week) yet future? Futurists say that in the future heaven and earth literally will pass away, but the bible says that until the law passed away not one jot or tittle will pass from the law till all be fulfilled. Meaning that we can now not be under grace until heaven and earth has passed.

I will give just one or two biblical scriptures proving that heaven and earth represented the bottom 3 things. Otherwise it would take much longer, because there are a lot of scriptures proving my point.

Heaven and earth represented three things 1 Gods people, 2 the land where Gods people lived and 3 the covenant they were under. I can prove this. First I will show you when Moses addressed the Israelites of heaven.

  1. Gods people addressed-Deuteronomy 32:1- 1Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.

    2. The land addressed- For example , the book of Acts records on the day of Pentecost that the Jews came out of every nation under heaven. These Jews came from approximately 16 regions in the Roman empire.

3.Matthew 24:35-36Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. 36-But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only

This is not speaking about the literal heavens and the literal earth, this is speaking of the old covenant law passing away.

Another scripture- 5My righteousness is near; my salvation is gone forth, and mine arms shall judge the people; the isles shall wait upon me, and on mine arm shall they trust. 6Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished. 7Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revelings.

16And I have put my words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou art my people

The entire chapter of Isaiah 51 talks about the law passing and grace being established when it refers to the law it calls it heaven and earth. From Jesus's time until 70 A.D the old heaven and earth(law, old Israelites, Jerusalem land) passed away and the new heaven and earth(covenant of grace, new Israelites believing Jew and Gentiles in one body, spiritual Jerusalem city) was finally established in 70 A.D

You will notice while reading the following scriptures that breaking the old covenant law was lawlessness. Also notice how he is speaking to the people living in those days and not to us today. Does that mean that the bible is not helpful to us living today? Absolutely not! We can learn what Christ did to save our souls and still apply scriptures by example and learn not to make the same mistake. We can also learn how Christ wants us to live and learn by his example.

Lawlessness Scriptures

But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’
and not do the things which I say
?
Luke 6:46

But he who merely hears
and does not practice doing My words
is like a man who built a house on the ground
without a foundation
, against which the torrent burst,
and immediately it collapsed and fell,
and
the breaking and ruin of that house was great.
Luke 6:46-49

  1. Matthew 7:21-23
Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven,
but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.

    2. ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’
And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

    In Context: Matthew 7:13-27
Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. (There were many false prophets that claimed to be Jesus, and there were also many false prophets who claimed that Jesus was not the messiah, saying that the Jews were going to win the war against the Romans.)

You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles?
Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.
Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. (see Gal 5:19-24)  (Notice that the tree that bears bad fruit is cut down and thrown in the fire like the Jews were who rejected Christ in 70 A.D) This like the wheat and the tares and the wedding feast all end with the wicked being burned. The wedding feast goes as far as to say the city was burnt referring to 70 A.D destruction of Jerusalem.

Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work lawlessness.

(This could not be talking about saints who are in the future, because we are not under the law and cannot be accused of being lawless)

Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:
and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand:
and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.

    Luke:
    W
hy do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say
    F
or everyone who comes to Me  and listens to my words and does them. I will show you what he is like. He is like a man building a house, who dug and went down deep
and laid foundation upon the  rock; and when a flood arose,
the torrent broke against that house and could not shake or move it, because it had been securely built or founded on a
    rock
    But
he who merely hears and does not practice doing My words is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation
against which the torrent burst, and immediately it collapsed and fell, and the breaking and ruin of that house was great. Luke 6:46-49
(Jesus was speaking directly to the people living in the first century warning them that if they did not obey his commandments there house would be destroyed. This happened in the Jewish Roman war in 66-70 A.D destruction of Jerusalem. The only people that escaped was the Christians who were waiting for the abomination of desolation, which Luke said would be armies surrounding Jerusalem.)
And how is one to do the will of the Father, thus to go to heaven?

Then there came a voice out of the cloud, saying,
"This is My Son, My Chosen One or My Beloved; listen to and yield to and obey Him!” Luk 9:35

How amazing, Jesus cared so much about his people that he allowed his voice to be heard out loud as proof that he was the messiah.

  2. Matthew 13:41
The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice
    lawlessness,

The old kingdom of law keeping was soon to pass and all those who had not accepted Christ as their messiah and gotten saved under the new testament plan of salvation Gods angels were going to cast them out of his kingdom, because only those in the new kingdom (new covenant of grace) were going to remain. Remember also in the story of the wedding feast there was one not wearing the garments and was cast out? The garments I believe represent the white garments worn by those who had had their garments washed by the blood of the lamb. Also, the old covenant passing by being destroyed made the new covenant official and God was marrying everyone saved under the new covenant.

    In Context: Mat 13:37-43
He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man.
The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked
    one.
The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels.
Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age.
The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will
gather out of His kingdom all things that offend,
    and those who practice lawlessness
, and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Read the entire story of the wheat and the tares. God had the good seed (wheat saved) and the (tares unsaved) grow together until the end. This is the opposite of what most rapture futurists, preachers preach. They teach the wheat which is the saved ones are raptured first and then at the end the (tares) wicked are judged.

Those who practiced lawlessness which was sin was cast into the furnece which was Jerusalem and the garbage dump called Ghenna, which was where garbage was constantly burned and where many who were dead were cast in 70 A.D. The rest burned alive as the city was burning. If that doesn't cause weeping, wailing and nashing of teeth I don't know what does.

  3. 1 John 3:4
    Whoever commits sin also commits
    lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.

This is the most important scripture in understanding what lawlessness is. If a person in the first century commited sin they were guilty of the whole law. That is why God came to give us a better covenant. The following scriptures were not written to us, but to the people in the first century. The bible was written for us though. We can get so much knowledge and appreciate Gods finished work or we can try to mix a little law in with a little grace and call it truth.

  4. Matthew 23:28
    Even so
you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

The following scriptures were obviously addressed to the people living in Jesus and his apostles time. They were going to be the ones who were going to miss eternal life if they continued in lawlessness.

    5.Matthew 24:12
    And because
lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.

    6.Romans 6:19
I speak in human terms because of the weakness of
your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness.

    7.2 Corinthians 6:14
Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with
lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?

    8.2 Thessalonians 2:7
    For the mystery of
lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way.

According to this scripture lawlessness already was at work in the first century. This is not talking about our century or to us.

    9.Hebrews1:9
You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of gladness more than Your companions.

It is perfectly clear that lawlessness was not obeying the Old covenant of law keeping that was passing away because Jesus Christ brought a better covenant of Grace where he wrote his laws in their heart. The Bible says the power of sin was the law. Once the law was done away with by Christ fulfilled the law. Now can we preach and teach that we now who are under grace are suppose to keep the old law by not being lawlessness absolutely not. We should now be preaching and teaching Christ finished work and not his unfinished work.
